Downtempo mashups for the RS winter solstice event
Lucky 13 was our winter solstice event, and the theme challenged many of the expected norms that have remained constant for nearly 30 years. The event was on a Saturday to start — our events have always been on Fridays. We started and ended 4 hours earlier — ending at 2am instead of 6am was a welcome shift for me. Our fearless leader Star requested mash-ups — another deviation from the norm — and I complied.
This set kicks off the night post ceremony and wanders through many sounds and artist I've long loved. Starting off, a mash up of The Staples Singers "I'll Take You There" set's the tone. One of my all time favorite cuts from French downtempo sensation, Air hits a high with a Bossa Nova mash up treatment.
