Serendipity

I've always loved the experience of serendipity. In my love for unexpected delight, I've spent some time seeking it out and pondering the mechanics. While working at Microsoft I had an opportunity to collaborate with a distinguished engineer from Sony who was also smitten by serendipity. Over lunch he shared that 'the opportunity for serendipity is a half-step ahead of the present' - a very Japanese expression of explaining the unexplainable. This set off a number of experiments exploring what it means to induce serendipity with intelligent services and subconscious signals.
