Dropbits

Dropbits was an app that encouraged the dropping and finding of “bits”, or virtual gifts. Part game, part social experiment, part augmented reality - the experience challenges the user to explore the real world. Users can only reveal the contents of a bit when at the location it was left - a rule to encourages people to share the context in which the gifts were left. Bits supported at the time included, images, notes, and sounds. The app was launched shortly after Apple’s App Store launched, but the project was abandoned.
