Contextual intelligence
While I was working with the HoloLens team, I craved more subtle and nuanced experiences. The limitations of the display became a painful reminder of the barrier between analog and digital experience. Auditory augmented reality became a passion project of mine, and I built a number of prototypes exploring non-visual, or at least non-head-mounted, ideas for AR. I would often describe the power of AR being in contextual awareness: understanding what you're looking at, what you're doing, where you came from, etc. Contextual intelligence became a catch-all term for the promise of technology to become better attuned to your needs - even to take on the role of protector and guide. Much of the work I was doing more than a decade ago is only now possible with the latest AI models. Now the question is: do we want to share that much information?
